Many of your students are currently babysitting for younger siblings or neighbors. Many of these babysitters have no formal training. With a babysitting class, you can provide your students with necessary basic child care information and skills and help them become responsible babysitters. You can also help prepare them for many situations that may arise wile caring for children. (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2016). Through this session you will learn about some Babysitting curriculums, some ways to teach the topics included in babysitting/child care curriculums using active learning, sample lesson plans, and information on how to start teaching babysitting as part of class, club, or after school activity at your school or in your community. Topics included in babysitting courses and ways to teach these to adolescents may include; Things to think about before you babysit, Ages and stages of children, Answering the phone while babysitting, Safety in the home, skills (diapering, discipline, preparing for bed, feeding, etc).
